What happened
Forbes' 2026 Forbes 400 list, published September 15, 2026, estimated Donald Trump's net worth at $7 billion, down from $7.3 billion a year earlier, and dropped him 44 places to No. 245 [9]. Forbes' live tracker, which moves with asset prices each trading day, showed $6.6 billion on October 26, 2026 [2]. The $7.3 billion of September 2025 had been Forbes' highest-ever estimate for Trump, up from $4.3 billion in 2024 when he was still a candidate [8]. Forbes says Trump is about $2.7 billion richer than when he won the 2024 election, even after slipping $300 million in 2026 [1].
The sons gained more in percentage terms. In December 2025 Forbes estimated Eric Trump at $400 million, ten times the $40 million it estimated at the election, although down from $750 million in September 2025 after the stock of his bitcoin-mining company fell 70% [4]. Forbes estimated Donald Trump Jr. at $300 million in December 2025, six times the $50 million of a year earlier and below a $500 million September 2025 estimate [5]. Forbes estimated Barron Trump at $150 million in September 2025, almost entirely from World Liberty Financial tokens and token sales [6].
Why it matters
Forbes said no president in United States history has profited from office as much as Trump, and that crypto was the main vehicle [8]. The family as a whole, including son-in-law Jared Kushner, was worth about $10 billion in September 2025, nearly double its value at the 2024 election [6].
The evidence
Forbes attributes the 2026 decline to three retail-driven assets: Trump Media shares fell about 50%, cutting his stake by nearly $1 billion; the $TRUMP memecoin fell roughly 70%, erasing about $530 million; and World Liberty tokens fell about 75%, erasing an estimated $260 million [3]. Against that, his liquid assets rose from $1.1 billion to $1.9 billion after taxes as World Liberty sent nearly $800 million to him and the memecoin delivered more than $600 million [3]. His golf-and-club portfolio was valued at $1.8 billion, with Mar-a-Lago at a record $650 million before liabilities [3]. World Liberty sold about $1.4 billion of tokens by September 2025, and a Trump family entity receives roughly 75% of those sales [8].
Forbes attributes Eric Trump's figure mainly to American Bitcoin and World Liberty token sales, and Don Jr.'s to venture firm 1789 Capital, Trump Media shares, World Liberty and board seats at Unusual Machines and Dominari [4][5]. Barron's estimate counted about $80 million from token sales and 2.3 billion locked-up tokens that Forbes heavily discounted [6].
Response and counterpoints
The Trump Organization did not respond to Forbes' questions about a reported sale of part of the family's World Liberty entity [8]. Trump said on July 1, 2026 that his money is run by funds and that "everybody's profiting" because the stock market is up [7]. Forbes itself notes that Trump's fortune has fallen in 2026 and that much of it remains in real estate [2][3].
What remains uncertain
Estimated net worth is not cash profit: the Forbes snapshot changes with asset prices, debt and valuation methods, and not every gain is established as caused by presidential action [2][3]. Three kinds of numbers appear here and must be kept apart: estimated net worth (what Forbes thinks assets minus debts would fetch), reported income (what a disclosure form says a business paid out in a year) and realized cash (what was actually sold and banked, which Forbes approximates as $1.9 billion in liquid assets after taxes) [3][7]. The sons' figures are dated estimates, not current liquid wealth; the September 2025 figures of $750 million and $500 million should not be described as present wealth [4][5]. Much of their change is linked to crypto ventures and public-company stakes rather than a documented direct transfer from their father [4][5]. No comparable Barron baseline was published, so a precise increase is unavailable, and funds managed by a relative are not that relative's personal wealth [6]. No Forbes updates for the three sons since December 2025 were located [4][5].
Money and method
Donald Trump: estimated net worth $7 billion (Forbes 400, September 15, 2026); $6.6 billion (Forbes real-time tracker, October 26, 2026); $7.3 billion (September 2025); $4.3 billion (2024) [9][2][8]. Eric Trump: $400 million (December 4, 2025); prior estimates $750 million (September 2025) and $40 million (November 2024) [4]. Donald Trump Jr.: $300 million (December 8, 2025); prior estimates $500 million (September 2025) and $50 million (November 2024) [5]. Barron Trump: $150 million (September 22, 2025) [6]. All are Forbes estimates and not additive with reported income or realized proceeds [3].
